Global Reach has established and presents the Bill Richardson Heart of a Patriot Award annually each spring in honor of the life and achievements of William B. Richardson (1947-2023), Governor of New Mexico (2003-2011), US Ambassador (1997-1998), US Secretary of Energy (1997-1998), and US presidential candidate (2008).
Gov. Richardson established the Richardson Center for Global Engagement in 2012 to mediate negotiations for the release of political prisoners globally.
The Bill Richardson Heart of a Patriot Award is given each year to former government officials, who after leaving office, selflessly choose to use their leadership and resources in the pursuit of freeing Americans held abroad.
Governor Richardson’s work serves as a proud example of the effectiveness of the private sector in cooperation with the government.
